With the dead period now in effect, SEC Country is counting down the top 10 recruiting targets for Florida in the Class of 2017.
No. 3 is C.J. Henderson, a 4-star cornerback from Miami.
Recruiting importance of C.J. Henderson
Cornerback is the No. 1 priority for the Gators in this year’s recruiting cycle, and they’ve done a great job addressing it. Florida has commitments from 4-star recruits Elijah Blades and Marco Wilson as well as 3-star defensive back Shawn Davis, who could play corner or safety in college. The same can be said for Brad Stewart, another top target in the secondary for Florida. But the Gators need a definite cornerback to join Blades and Wilson in the class, and Henderson would give them that.
Biggest competition for C.J. Henderson
Miami. Henderson committed to the hometown Hurricanes but backed off that pledge on Oct. 3 to reopen his recruitment. He officially visited Auburn and Tennessee after that and has trips scheduled to Alabama and Florida in January. However, Henderson has visited Miami four times since his de-commitment, most recently on Dec. 9 for an official visit. The Hurricanes appear to be the only team that could challenge UF in his recruitment.
Signing day projection for C.J. Henderson
Henderson played it smart over the past two months and is evaluating all of his options. But in the end, the Gators should win him over. They’ve been considered his leader even before his de-commitment because of his relationship with the UF coaches and the Gators’ need for cornerbacks. He is also close friends with Davis and his teammate at Miami Southridge, fellow Florida commit Kemore Gamble. Davis and Gamble will be on campus as early enrollees when Henderson officially visits UF on Jan. 20.
