Jim Harbaugh to Florida QB recruit: ‘I don’t give a s–t about your grades’
Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh did not make a good impression on one of Florida’s top prospects at a camp during the 2017 recruiting cycle.
Florida signee Jake Allen told SEC Country’s Zach Abolverdi he had been talking with other quarterback recruits about grades at a Michigan camp. When Harbaugh heard their discussion, Allen said Harbaugh came over and yelled at him.
“I was messing around and said, ‘I got a C in third grade.’ Jim Harbaugh overheard and screams, ‘I don’t give a s–t about your grades,’ ” Allen said. “Then he realized I was part of the quarterback group that had recruits in it so he just kind of walked away. It was weird. I couldn’t wait to get out of there after that, and we left early.”
Harbaugh has made major efforts to expand Michigan’s recruiting footprint, particularly in the state of Florida. His strategies have drawn criticism from some, and they even resulted in new NCAA legislation. But at least in this case, he didn’t come off well.
When asked later about which coach was “not the nicest” during his recruitment, Allen again singled out the Michigan coach.
“Coach Harbaugh definitely rubbed me the wrong way,” he said.
