With Will Grier transferring and the suspension of Treon Harris, Florida’s new set of quarterbacks drew a lot of attention this spring.
Graduate transfer Austin Appleby is competing for the starting job as well, and true freshmen Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask both showed flashes in the spring.
On Wednesday’s SEC football teleconference, UF coach Jim McElwain assessed all four signal callers and the areas they need to improve on this offseason.
“Not trying to do too much,” McElwain said of Del Rio. “Let the game kind of come to him, and I thought he did that in the spring game. Austin, in his case, I would say not being so hard on himself. He’s one of those perfectionists and sometimes lets maybe the negative play impact the next one rather than clap it off and move forward.
“Feliepe, just an understanding of not every play needs to be a home run. Just take what the defense gives you. In Kyle’s case, just a continued understanding in what we’re trying to accomplish. I’m really happy with the arm talent in that room and look forward to being able to push the ball vertically downfield.”
