Add another impressive feat for Jim McElwain in his first year with the Florida Gators.
After the Gators’ win over the Florida Atlantic Owls, McElwain has now won the most games (10) in his first season with the Gators than any other coach in program history. Previously, there was a four-way tie for first place with Urban Meyer (2005), Steve Spurrier (1990), Galen Hall (1985) and Ray Graves (1960) all winning nine games in their first season in Gainesville.
Florida’s win over Florida Atlantic wasn’t pretty, but as McElwain says, the Gators just keep finding ways to win. Obviously, the performance wasn’t great on Saturday, but the win doesn’t show up any differently than the team’s other nine wins this season.
The Gators will try for 11 wins when they host the Florida State Seminoles on Nov. 28.
