GAINESVILLE, Fla. — During his weekly appearance on “Gator Talk” Thursday night, Florida coach Jim McElwain confirmed that senior linebacker Daniel McMillian will be able to play through his ankle injury this week.
McMillian, who operates as Florida’s third linebacker, sustained what McElwain had said was a high-ankle sprain during the season opener Saturday night against Massachusetts, but he went through practice Wednesday and is on track to play.
Or, as McElwain put it, refused not to practice.
“He gutted it out. He would not be denied. He demanded to practice all week, so we’ll have him back. We’re excited about that,” McElwain said.
McElwain also said that fifth-year senior running back Mark Herndon, who sees most of his playing time on special teams, got banged up last week but we’ll be active this week. And junior wide receiver C.J. Worton (high-ankle sprain) will, indeed, make his season debut.
“We’ve excited about that, we’ve got some guys back,” McElwain said.
