For the first time since the University of Florida announced that Gators quarterback Will Grier lost his NCAA appeal, McElwain addressed the ruling Monday.
“Well you know I mean we did everything we could in support of it,” McElwain said. “That’s an NCAA decision. And we’ll continue to you know be there for him. He’s still part of this team.”
Grier will remain suspended for one calendar year for a violation of the NCAA’s policy for performance-enhancing drugs. He is ineligible to play until the seventh game of the 2016 season — a home game against Missouri on Oct. 15. Grier will be a redshirt sophomore when he returns.
