JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florida coach Jim McElwain revealed Saturday that running back Jordan Cronkrite is not with the Gators football team at this time.
“He’s trying to figure out whether he wants to play or not,” McElwain said Saturday following a 24-10 win against Georgia in Jacksonville.
“Our door’s always open for him. Until he finds his way in what he wants to do, we’re here to support him.”
UF initially said Cronkrite did not travel with the team Saturday because of an undisclosed injury. Cronkrite hurt his leg against Missouri and missed the last two weeks of practice.
He was not the only running back missing for Florida. Junior college transfer Mark Thompson was suspended for the game following his citation for marijuana possession Thursday.
With Cronkrite and Thompson out, sophmore Jordan Scarlett got the bulk of the carries and rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on 26 touches. True freshman Lamical Perine ran the ball 15 times for 33 yards.
Scarlett discussed Cronkrite’s absence from the team.
“He’s just going through some things right now and I think he’ll be all right in the end,” Scarlett said of Cronkrite. “I’m letting him have his space. I’ll let him have his personal time and just let him figure out what’s best for him.”
