As Jim McElwain tries to rebuild Florida football into a championship program, one of his mottos is ‘recruit daily or die.’ Join us here on SEC Country for a daily recap of the latest UF recruiting news, tales from the trail and perspective on what it all means for the Gators.
Another DT target has emerged for UF
The Gators continue expanding the defensive tackle board as they try to fill one of their biggest needs for the Class of 2017.
UF coach Jim McElwain was in Decatur, Ga., on Tuesday to visit Georgia DT commit Devonte Wyatt. McElwain and his staff have been eyeing Wyatt for the past month.
Defensive line coach Chris Rumph saw him on Dec. 5 to gauge his interest in the Gators. Then director of player personnel Drew Hughes visited Wyatt last Friday and secured an official visit from him for Jan. 27.
The 3-star recruit has been committed to the in-state Bulldogs since Aug. 8 when he flipped from South Carolina to UGA. Wyatt is still considering the Gamecocks and visited Columbia last weekend.
He’ll visit Georgia this weekend before taking his last trip to Florida. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound prospect plans to make a final decision on National Signing Day.
Wyatt is one of seven defensive tackles the Gators will host this month. Maryland commit Cam Spence (Washington, D.C.) officially visited UF last weekend.
Florida is scheduled to bring in Elijah Conliffe (Hampton, Va.), Tedarrell Slaton (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Tyrone Truesdell (Augusta, Ga.) this weekend. In addition to Wyatt, Maryland commits and twin brothers Brandon and Breyon Gaddy will visit UF on Jan. 27.
Florida commit rises in Rivals rankings
Tuesday couldn’t have gone much better for T.J. Moore, a 4-star offensive lineman from Charlotte, N.C.
The Florida commitment made a huge jump in the latest Rivals.com rankings, moving up 59 spots. He’s now No. 190 overall in the Rivals 250.
Moore then received an in-home visit Tuesday night from McElwain, Hughes and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier. Moore is one of eight commits visiting UF this weekend.
