Leddie Brown a potential flip
The recent and upcoming attrition at Florida’s running back position will cause the Gators to sign a pair of players at the position in the Class of 2018.
Florida already has one commitment in Iverson Clement, a 4-star athlete from Mount Holly, N.J. The Gators have several options for their second spot in the class, including West Virginia RB commit Leddie Brown.
Both backs attended Friday Light Nights last week, with Brown making the trip from Smyrna, Del. He was impressed by the turnout at Florida’s annual recruiting showcase.
“There were so many players and recruits in the building,” Brown said. “The way the Florida coaching staff runs the camp is different from West Virginia. I like the energy of the Florida coaches and the tempo of the camp.”
The Delaware product worked closely with Gators running back coach Ja’Juan Seider, who has recruited Brown for four years and was largely responsible for his commitment to the Mountaineers. Seider is now trying to get him out of it.
“It’s always fun seeing Coach Seider,” Brown said. “I’ve been around him since eighth grade. I really like the way he coaches. He’s not a coach that jumps on you real quick when you do something he doesn’t like. He teaches you, and then he asks you to try it again.”
Like Clement, Brown is rated as an athlete and ranks 19th nationally at that position in the 247Sports composite. The Gators plan to use the 6-foot, 210-pound prospect in a variety of ways.
“They really want me and they’re glad that I’m back down,” Brown said. “They think I can be a real big part of this offense. They can move to any position — running back, slot, receiver. I can be a versatile player for them.”
Brown said Florida is his No. 2 school and he will return for official visit this fall. He’s also considering North Carolina and plans to make a final decision with his family after taking his trips.
Brown also said he communicates on social media with Clement and they go “way back.” Clement told SEC Country he has no issue with a second back joining Florida’s 2018 class.
“I want to win,” Clement said. “It’s the best of the best, even at my position. I want to get the best running back because I want to win. If you have a winning mindset, you’re going to do anything and everything to win.”
