McElwain, Nussmeier watching their prized QB recruit
A day after visiting 5-star UGA commit Jacob Eason, Florida coach Jim McElwain and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier made it to Orlando, Fla. to see another top-flight quarterback.
McElwain and Nussmeier came to the Citrus Bowl on Friday to watch their prized recruit, Feleipe Franks, compete with his Crawfordville (Fla.) Wakulla team in the Class 5A state championship game against Orlando Bishop Moore.
Franks, the highest rated Gators commit in the 247Sports Composite, will head to Gainesville after the game to officially visit UF along with eight other early enrollees.
Franks is one of two QB commits for Florida, along with Kyle Trask of Manvel, Texas. Trask will enroll in January as well.
McElwain and Nussmeier are still hoping to flip Eason from Georgia, where he will visit this weekend and meet with new coach Kirby Smart.
Eason, also an early enrollee, plans to decide between Florida and Georgia following his trip to Athens.
In an interview with SEC Country this week, Franks said he’s “not worried” about Eason or any other quarterback Florida is recruiting and is sticking with his commitment.
