GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Shawn Davis has paid attention to Florida’s cornerbacks over the years.
The likes of Joe Haden, Vernon Hargreaves III, Janoris Jenkins, Marcus Roberson and Jalen Tabor all played and started as true freshmen.
Davis feels he could be next in line.
“I think I can make an immediate impact at Florida,” Davis said.
The 6-foot, 190-pound cornerback visited the school Monday to see “DBU” at work.
“I wanted to watch all the players in action, and that was my favorite part of the visit,” Davis said. “They play real physical and have a lot of energy. It was a good experience and looked like a lot of fun.”
Davis’ area recruiter, UF linebackers coach Randy Shannon, told the Miami Southridge standout that could be him next year.
“He was telling me as I’m coming in, there’s going to be guys leaving,” Davis said. “So I’m going to have a chance to play as a freshman. It sounded good to me. I know most of their guys are successful and go to the NFL.”
Davis is rated a three-star recruit in the 247Sports Composite, but an impressive list of schools want his services. He holds 25 other offers in addition to Florida, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and USC.
Davis told SEC Country that Miami, Florida and Auburn — in that order — are recruiting him the hardest, but he claims no leaders at this time.
“I’ll make a decision after the summer if I’m ready,” Davis said. “If not, I’ll take it to signing day.”
