With the dead period now in effect, SEC Country is counting down the top 10 recruiting targets for Florida in the Class of 2017.
No. 7 is T.J. Moore, a 4-star offensive tackle from Charlotte, N.C.
Recruiting importance of T.J. Moore
Barring a transfer or junior left tackle David Sharpe turning pro, Florida will return all 15 offensive linemen next season. Nonetheless, UF still needs to sign at least two quality prospects to upgrade the talent at the position. The Gators have a commitment from the No. 3 offensive tackle in Florida, Miami’s Kadeem Telfort, but they missed on the top two tackles in the state (Alex Leatherwood and Navaughn Donaldson). UF is expected to host a trio of 4-star offensive tackles on official visits next month, and Moore might be the most attainable target.
Biggest competition for T.J. Moore
N.C. State. Moore used to be committed to South Carolina and has been targeted by Tennessee for some time, but both SEC schools are tight on numbers and already have three offensive tackle commits for the Class of 2017. However, Moore plans to officially visit the Gamecocks and Vols next month. The Wolfpack don’t have any pledges at Moore’s position, and they’re the in-state team. Moore visited N.C. State last weekend before the dead period.
Signing day projection for T.J. Moore
If his recruitment actually comes down to Florida and N.C. State, the Gators have to like their chances. He is scheduled to officially visit on Jan. 27, so UF coaches will be the last staff to see him before signing day. He also has a relationship with former Florida offensive tackle D.J. Humphries, who attended the same high school (Mallard Creek). If Moore wants to play in the SEC and his trip to Gainesville goes well, he could follow in the footsteps of Humphries.
