It’s sometimes difficult to imagine what goes on behind the scenes at ESPN, but Paul Finebaum gave a small look into what goes on in Bristol.
While doing so, he also let his listeners and viewers have a small peak into the mind of Chip Kelly, who seems to be Florida’s target as its next head coach.
Finebaum said he talks with Chip Kelly every Sunday when the two are in Bristol together for SportsCenter on Sunday mornings.
“We talk a little bit in general,” he said on his own show Tuesday. “All he has really said is that he’s comfortable where he is and that there is likely a fit out there for him.”
Monday into Tuesday has brought Kelly to the forefront of the Gators’ search for Jim McElwain’s replacement.
“I’m a little surprised how quickly this has moved, if this is accurate,” Finebaum said.
He also noted Kelly’s successes and what he was able to do in the pacific northwest. His impact on the NFL was minimal, but more than 40 wins in four seasons at Oregon can’t be ignored.
“I don’t know how to characterize him other than it’s unbelievable,” Finebaum said. “What he did at Oregon was spectacular.”
