Paul Finebaum and Kirk Herbstreit don’t envision it being a pretty situation for Florida if the Gators lose to Tennessee on Saturday.
Speaking on Saturday morning, the ESPN analysts gave their takes on Florida’s outlook heading into a key SEC East showdown against the Volunteers at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The Gators are 0-1 after a loss to Michigan on Sept. 2 and the cancellation of their game against Northern Colorado last Saturday.
“A loss today, and people — unfortunately for him — will be coming after him big time,” Finebaum said of Florida coach Jim McElwain on ESPN’s SportsCenter.
“Could you imagine if Tennessee walks off of that field with a win?” Herbstreit said on ESPN’s College GameDay. “Zero and two [losses], where do they go from there? That would be a terrible start.”
Certainly, a 0-2 start would be a terrible scenario for the Gators. Florida has gone through quite a bit lately. Recently, Hurricane Irma traveled through the Sunshine State and caused so much destruction from the Florida Keys to Jacksonville and many points in between. It will be interesting to see how the Gators respond Saturday afternoon after all the off-the-field distractions.
But definitely, a victory would help McElwain and the Gators, for sure.
