As Jim McElwain tries to rebuild Florida football into a championship program, one of his mottos is “recruit daily or die.” Join us here on SEC Country for a daily recap of the latest UF recruiting news, tales from the trail and perspective on what it all means for the Gators.
Joe Milton had a busy recruiting road trip Friday, hitting up three schools with some teammates.
The 4-star quarterback from Orlando, Fla., visited Florida, Georgia and Georgia State. His first stop was Gainesville, where he made his second visit to UF in a week.
“Everything was great,” Milton said. “I’m glad that I went back. The coaches were happy to see me and they asked me to come visit them again soon. I’m definitely going to.”
The 6-foot-5, 222-pound prospect visited Florida last Tuesday and received an offer from Gators coach Jim McElwain at the end of his trip, which made his “heart drop.”

After watching practice last week, Milton said he doesn’t have any questions or concerns about Florida’s offense and whether it fits him. Now, it’s about building a relationship with McElwain and his staff.
“I like the offense and I like the campus. I’m comfortable there,” Milton said of UF. “I get along with the coaches so we’re starting to create that bond. It’s important to have that and I feel it coming.”
Milton has not named a leader or his top group of schools, but Georgia and Michigan are viewed as the biggest threats to Florida in his recruitment.
Milton, the nation’s No. 12 pro-style quarterback in the 247Sports Composite, also visited the Bulldogs on Friday.
“That was my second time visiting UGA,” Milton said. “It’s a great school and they run a pro-style offense like Florida. I talked to all the Georgia coaches and we had a good time. They were surprised I came. They thought I’d visit later this spring or in the summer.”
Next up for Milton is Michigan, which will host him on April 15. The Wolverines offered last month after his breakout performance at The Opening Regional in Orlando.
“I want to go check them out,” Milton said. “After that, I should come out with my top schools and then I want to make my decision at the end of the spring. I think I’ll be ready to commit by then.”
Milton is now up to 25 offers, with the latest coming from Ole Miss. He visited Florida State on Monday and the Seminoles could be the next team to pull the trigger.
“I feel very blessed,” Milton said of his recruitment blowing up. “I knew all this would eventually come, but I had to work for it and I’m still grinding. I don’t take any of these offers for granted.”
