GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Running back recruit Dameon Pierce didn’t go through drills at Florida’s Friday Night Lights recruiting camp. That wasn’t the purpose of his third trip to UF.
Instead, he roamed around the indoor practice facility and talked with the coaches in an attempt to connect on a personal level. Pierce likes what he has heard from the Gators so far.
“Good things,” Pierce said. “They want me and they need me. I’m just coming out here and getting acquainted with the coaches like I’ve been doing. I just left [running backs] coach [Ja’Juan] Seider. Just having fun.”
Pierce, a 4-star prospect and the No. 9 ranked running back in the Class of 2018 according to the 247Sports composite, said Seider’s message to him was clear.
“He said he needs a dog,” Pierce said. “He said he’s got a back he can work with, but he really needs an elite back.”
Pierce said his top-five schools as of now are Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn and Florida State, but added that he doesn’t have a timetable yet for announcing his commitment. The Gators already have one running back with a verbal commitment in their 2018 recruiting class in 4-star prospect Iverson Clement.
“Whenever I feel the need to commit,” Pierce said, “I’ll commit.”
