Before moving back into a renovated O’Connell Center on Dec. 21, Florida Gators basketball had to play one more basketball game at a neutral site.
And the game could not have gone better.
The Gators jumped out to a huge lead early over the Charlotte 49ers and never looked back. The Gators dominated the glass and picked up an easy 87-46 victory on Saturday. With the win the Gators move to 8-3 on the season while Charlotte drops to 6-4.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Gators, as they had lost their last two games to Florida State and Duke.
The game was played as part of the MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball classic. The game was played at the BB&T center in Sunrise, Fla.

Stat line of the game: The rebounding edge
Florida is a much bigger team than Charlotte, and that gave them a 44-23 edge on the glass. The rebounding edge also gave the Gators a big edge in second chance points, as they held a 14-2 advantage in that category

Over the span of almost 10 minutes in the first half, the Gators put together a 22-3 run. Florida expanded what was a 14-8 advantage to a 36-11 blowout. Florida ultimately held a 48-22 lead at halftime of the game.

What’s next for Florida Gators basketball:
The Gators have just one non-conference game left as they take Arkansas Little Rock on Wednesday. The Trojans are 9-2 and did make the NCAA Tournament last season. The game will also be the Gators first at the O’Connell Center of the season. Florida then opens up its SEC slate on Dec. 29, when it travels to Arkansas.
