After a 6-0 start, Florida has the attention of top prospects across the country.
We look at a four-star wide receiver who committed to the Gators last week and a five-star linebacker who has the Gators at the top of his list in this week’s recruiting roundup.
Here’s this week’s top Gators recruiting news:
* 2016 Citra-North Marion WR Freddie Swain verbally committed to Florida in a ceremony held at his high school Friday afternoon, choosing the Gators over USC, Tennessee, LSU, South Carolina and Miami. The four-star recruit is rated as the country’s 29th-best wide receiver prospect in the 2016 class. (Click here for the full story)
* In men’s basketball recruiting news, 2016 Oldsmar Christian School PF Dontay Bassett verbally committed to the Gators on Monday, becoming the second member of Florida’s 2016 recruiting class. The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Bassett is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals.com.
* 2016 five-star Carver (Ala.) OLB Lyndell “Mack” Wilson named Florida his top school a few weeks ago. Wilson, who is rated as the nation’s top outside linebacker by 247Sports and is expected to wait until signing day in February to announce his college decision, explained to Alabamanews.net why the Gators are at the top of his list:
“When I visited Florida, it felt like home,” Wilson said. “I haven’t been to a game yet, but from what I’m seeing, they play hard and they never give up. Whenever they’re down, their heads are still high and they pick each other up on the field. Academically, they’ve got what I want to major in. I did a lot of background checks on them and that’s how they became my No. 1 school.”
* Florida’s 2016 football recruiting class is currently ranked 14th nationally by 247Sports and 13th nationally by Rivals.com. The class is up to 21 commits.
