With the dead period now in effect, SEC Country is counting down the top 10 recruiting targets for Florida in the Class of 2017.
No. 2 is James Robinson, a 4-star wide receiver from Lakeland, Fla.
Recruiting importance of James Robinson
The Gators signed five wide receivers in the last recruiting cycle, so they don’t have a huge need at the position. However, they could still use talent upgrades and immediate-impact players such as Robinson.
This year is about quality, not quantity. Florida already has a commitment from 4-star recruit Daquon Green, the lone All-American in the class. With 5-star receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones going to Michigan as expected, Robinson, at 6-foot-3, 196 pounds, is a must-get for the Gators. He has been on their radar for more than a year.
Biggest competition for James Robinson
Oklahoma. The Sooners recruited Robinson for a long time and never let up in their pursuit. Robinson has official visits scheduled for January to UCLA, Alabama and Ole Miss, in that order. UF is hoping to bump one of those visits and get him on campus. With four trips available, Robinson could also take a midweek visit to Florida. Regardless, Oklahoma and Ole Miss might be the only schools capable of threatening the in-state Gators.
Signing day projection for James Robinson
Florida plans to put heavy pressure on Robinson during the final month, and that should pay off. He named them his leader in the spring because of his connection with secondary coach Torrian Gray, his primary recruiter. Gray and receivers coach Kerry Dixon II had an in-home visit with Robinson during the final week of the contact period. Florida was admittedly Robinson’s dream school growing up, and it’s unlikely he would pass that up for Oklahoma or Ole Miss.
