GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Orange & Blue Debut produced a big recruiting night for Florida coach Jim McElwain and his staff.
“Second year in a row,” he said. “I just think it’s really good. It hit some guys spring breaks so we were able to get even a bigger crowd with some of this stuff. It’s a great atmosphere for them and they love it.”
Here are some reactions from recruits who attended the spring game:
5-star cornerback Tyreke Johnson, Jacksonville, Fla.
“I loved it. I love what I saw from the defense. They played a lot of press man … seems like they want the long corners inside the dude’s face to challenge the receivers at the line. That’s something very exciting. I also like how the defense was flying around and hitting people. I know it’s your own team, you don’t want to hurt nobody. But they put it all on the field and gave 110 percent.”
4-star wide receiver Jacob Copeland, Pensacola, Fla.
“Everything was good. You know, it’s always good to come back to Florida. They got somewhat of a young team, but they’re building it up. I felt like in the next couple of years, Florida will be that team to take off and end up in the national championship game again. They’re making progress in a lot of ways and I’m liking it right now.”
4-star offensive tackle Richard Gouraige, Tampa, Fla.
“I loved it. Kicking it with Coach (Brad) Davis and Coach Mac, they were just keeping it real with me. I appreciate that a lot. Florida (leads) for sure.”

4-star safety C.J. Smith, West Palm Beach, Fla. (Florida commit)
“This is my fourth time visiting here this year, they treat me like I’m home. … The only way I’m going to flip is if the whole coaching staff just gets fired or something. You’d have to do something real spectacular. Houdini, man.”
4-star wide receiver John Dunmore, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (2019 Florida commit)
“It was great. I felt at home. I saw everything I need to see and I liked it. They coaches love me and I can’t wait to play for them.”
4-star defensive end Derrick Hunter, Fort Myers, Fla. (2019)
“It was perfect. I loved the atmosphere and everything. Their aggressiveness stood out. They gave it 100 percent every play.”
