Florida’s coaching search for a replacement for Jim McElwain could be over soon.
According to a report from Florida-based lawyer and Gators alum Darren Heitner, Florida could make the decision to hire Chip Kelly and possibly do it this week.
Confirmed that UF is looking at Chip Kelly as next head coach. Decision could be as soon as this week. Also heard that Florida was becoming very frustrated with Jimmy Sexton, who represents many other potential candidates. Chip is represented by David Dunn.

Heitner was also the source who broke the news of Florida negotiating Jim McElwain’s buyout a couple weeks ago on the morning of the Florida-Georgia game, which turned out to be McElwain’s last one in charge of the Gators.
Heitner mentions Jimmy Sexton in this latest tweet, and he’s the agent who represents McElwain and who was a part of the buyout negotiations. And according to Heitner, Sexton represents other possible candidates for the Florida opening.
It appears that maybe Chip Kelly’s greatest strength right now is not his offense, but instead that Jimmy Sexton is not his agent.
Kelly previously coached Oregon to the national title game before spending time as the head coach with the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles. He currently serves as an analyst for ESPN.
