GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Scott Stricklin, who is reportedly set to be hired as Florida’s new athletics director, was not ready to confirm the news himself Monday evening as he stepped out of the school’s University Athletic Association offices a little after 5:30 p.m.
“I really can’t,” Stricklin told SEC Country.
He was friendly and sporting an orange tie apropos for a future Gators athletics director, but he declined to comment further.
Though he added, “But I’ll be around tomorrow.”
Florida had earlier in the day postponed its basketball media day event scheduled for Tuesday, and USA Today’s Dan Wolken reported the news that Florida was set to tab Stricklin, who has been Mississippi State’s athletics director since 2010, as the successor to longtime Florida AD Jeremy Foley, who is scheduled to retire on Oct. 1
SEC Country reported that Stricklin met with Florida football coach Jim McElwain earlier in the day.
