If Florida can land former Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire, a Sports Illustrated writer would consider the impact of the player’s addition “massive” for the Gators.
In a roundtable published Tuesday, Sports Illustrated‘s Chris Johnson makes the case why Zaire should transfer to Florida. On Monday, a report from 247Sports’ Thomas Goldkamp surfaced that suggested Zaire is a “major target” for the Gators.
Check out part of Johnson’s argument below.
The Gators’ pro-style system may not be a perfect fit for Zaire’s skill set, but the impact of his addition would be massive. A dangerous runner who showed promise as a passer in limited action at Notre Dame, Zaire likely would be the best quarterback to line up for the Gators since McElwain took over as head coach prior to the 2015 season.
That’s high praise for Zaire, who would be an intriguing addition for Florida if he finds his way to Gainesville.
In November, Zaire announced an intention to transfer. He is expected to decide on a destination in mid-April, and Florida was among the early favorites to secure his services.
Zaire threw for 816 yards with 6 touchdowns and a 59.2 career completion percentage with Notre Dame from 2014-16. He also had 324 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.
