Steve Spurrier is proud of what he accomplished against Georgia.
In an interesting piece for SB Nation, the former Florida and South Carolina coach describes his pride in compiling an impressive 16-7 record against the Bulldogs during his career on the sidelines. That mark includes an amazing 11-1 run against Georgia while coaching the Gators.
Check out what Spurrier wrote below.
To tell you the truth, I’m proud of the fact I have more wins over Georgia than any other coach in history. I think I got 16, but hey, we’ve lost seven. I’ve coached against them 23 times.
Spurrier, who retired in 2015 after earning 228 victories, goes on to relive a loss to Georgia when he was a senior at Florida in 1966. He said the Bulldogs “beat the crap out of us,” but he added he thought he “could get even” as a coach.
Mission accomplished, wouldn’t you say?
Frankly, the SEC is different without Spurrier. The recent SEC Media Days were a reminder of how the league lacks a coach who can provide the same kind of spice Spurrier gifted the league.
Georgia fans are probably glad to see him gone, though.
