Florida pitcher Brady Singer is gaining some momentum ahead of the 2018 MLB Draft on Monday night.
According to MLB pitching icon Pedro Martinez, Singer is the safest bet to succeed in this draft. Here’s Martinez’s explanation:

Singer is a highly touted prospect and is a sure bet to go in the top 10, but he’s not the consensus best pitcher in the draft. That honor goes to Auburn’s Casey Mize, who almost certainly will go No. 1 overall on Monday night.
“I think this is the safest bet in the draft,” Martinez said. “This kid is strong, he’s got two big-league pitches ready already. The fastball is a power fastball, the curveball is there. There’s very little you have to work with him [on]. Not only that, his demeanor on the mound, I think it’s close to the big-league demeanor that you need.”
Martinez did add that he sees Singer as a closer if he doesn’t pan out as a starter.
Singer is 11-1 this year with a 2.27 ERA. Opposing batters have hit just .188 against him this season, and his strikeout-to-walk ratio is better than 5-to-1.
The first and second rounds of the 2018 MLB Draft will be broadcast on MLB Network on Monday starting at 7 p.m. ET.
