Georgia Makes Top 5 For Elite In-State Running Back Nigel Newkirk

Three-star running back Nigel Newkirk announced his Top 5 schools on Wednesday.

Georgia, Michigan, Alabama, Miami, and Florida State are Newkirk’s top schools.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound running back plays at Gainesville High School and is from McDonough, Georgia. He received an offer from the Bulldogs on Aug. 17, making them an immediate favorite in his recruitment.

Newkirk is the No. 436 overall prospect and No. 36 running back in the class of 2027, according to the Rivals Industry ranking. He ranks as the No. 45 player in the state of Georgia and is the No. 5 running back in the state. He holds notable offers from multiple other major college football programs, including Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, and Miami.

Newkirk has caught the attention of multiple programs due to his breakout junior season at Gainesville High School. In 10 games, he recorded 1,224 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on 8.5 yards per carry.

In an exclusive with Rivals, Newkirk spoke glowingly of Georgia’s program and the development of players for the next level under head coach Kirby Smart.

“Georgia’s just built different,” Newkirk said. “They play at the highest level every year, and you can tell their whole program is about toughness and winning. The way they develop guys for the league and the energy in Athens, it’s hard to beat that.”

Newkirk took an unofficial visit to Athens in September and appears to be trending towards being an important target for the Bulldogs in next year’s recruiting class.
