The Georgia Bulldogs fan base remains split on Kirby Smart’s loyalty to offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. After UGA’s 39-34 Sugar Bowl loss to Ole Miss, the tension has only grown stronger within Dawg Nation.
Georgia’s loss to Ole Miss eliminated it from the College Football Playoff in the quarterfinals for the second straight year. Bobo, the former Bulldogs quarterback and current coordinator who’s worked under Mark Richt and Smart, remains the center of debate.
Georgia finished the 2025 season ranked No. 50 nationally in total offense, averaging 402.5 yards per game. Led by former Heisman hopeful Gunner Stockton, the Bulldogs averaged 32.1 points per game, which ranked 32nd in the nation.
After the Sugar Bowl, where Georgia had 343 yards of offense, fans voiced that the play-calling felt predictable and conservative. Georgia fans heavily debated whether Bobo is the right man for the job in Athens.
But it wouldn’t be fair not to mention the fact that UGA also gave up 39 points. It also made Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss look like 2019 LSU QB Joe Burrow. The Ole Miss offense torched Georgia for 473 total yards, including 362 in the air. That raised another debate amongst Bulldog fans: What about defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann?
Former Georgia defensive back Corey Moore says it’s time to move on from Mike Bobo and Glenn Schumann
Georgia fans argued on social media about who’s truly to blame. Plenty also mentioned Smart’s decision-making down the stretch. Former UGA defensive back Corey Moore joined in on the topic.

Moore played at Georgia from 2011-14 under Richt and went on to spend four years in the NFL. He revived a post he made in October after UGA lost to Alabama in Athens:
“As long as Mike Bobo and Glenn Schumann are at those coordinator spots at UGA, we will never win a national championship game,” Moore originally said in October, which he screenshotted and posted to Instagram. “Certain people can qualify for certain positions in life, but that does not mean you are the right fit for the job. I have never been a coach, but I have played the game of football on every level. And if you have an eye for football, you can see this.”

Moore added:
“Back in October, I posted this and got feedback and I did see certain reactions online as well. I was speaking from and seeing the game of football, from the eye of someone who has played and started at the highest level of football. I was not speaking out of emotions, I used the knowledge I have obtained through the game of football, and the logic I spoke on back in October I saw whenever we failed short against Alabama. One thing that I have learned about football is, you have to keep entitlement and feelings out of football if you want to see improvement.”
Georgia fans are letting Kirby Smart hear it as well
Smart is considered the best coach in college football. Because he is. And if he ever leaves us, we’re screwed. However, fans of his own team are letting him hear it after two controversial decisions in the Sugar Bowl. Smart opted to go for it on 4th down from Georgia’s own 32-yard line in the fourth quarter. UGA was down by only three at the time. The result was a sack/fumble that led to an Ole Miss touchdown.
Then, on third down at the Ole Miss 6-yard line with a minute left, Georgia chose to pass. The throw fell incomplete. Georgia kicked a field goal and gave Ole Miss the ball back with 56 seconds remaining. If Georgia had run the ball, Ole Miss would have had much less time to drive for the winning kick.
Moore mentioned that as well in an Instagram story:
“We should’ve punted the ball instead of going for it. Kirby’s identity is defense and it’s not offense, so if I was in his situation I would’ve punted the ball and relied on my defense. Our identity at Georgia is not offense, it is defense!! Offense wins games defense wins championships!!”

“We will continue to inherit bull 💩 as former players, fans, and as an institution at UGA if we don’t make a change and I’m done talking about it,” Moore said in his final Instagram story.
Schumann has been Georgia’s sole defensive coordinator since 2024. Before that, he shared the role with Will Muschamp. That partnership began after Dan Lanning left for Oregon following the 2021 national championship. Georgia’s defense has not been bad. But it has not matched the physical dominance fans expected after the elite 2021 unit.
Who would Georgia get to replace Bobo and Schumann?
This is a common question asked. And I’m not really sure it matters. There’s plenty of names out there that Kirby could contact about the jobs. Maybe it’s time to just give someone a shot and let them make a name for themselves. Bobo has been with UGA for a long time. He’s been Georgia’s offensive coordinator for 11 years…two stints. Not once during that time has Georgia won a CFP game or a national title.
Maybe it’s time for a change. Yes, Kirby Smart and Mike Bobo go way back, and Bobo’s son Drew was a key piece of Georgia’s offensive line. But compare what Todd Monken built in 2021 and 2022 with what we’ve seen since Bobo took over. The results feel stagnant. As much as I respect Mark Richt, that era ultimately fell short of expectations…so why keep elements of it around?

Bobo needs to go. Smart always taking up for him. I realize it is an offensive staff, others are involved with the input for the game plan. I had rather have Muschamp than Schuman.
Hate it. But I agree with Corey. The coordinators are a liability at this point in the new college football landscape.
This is all 100% true. Bobo has bounced around before making it back to Georgia. Why? Because he wasn’t getting the job done at other schools and he knew his buddy would hire him a Georgia and if things worked out Kirby would make him the OC. So yes he needs to go. We need someone with Todd Monken vision, innovation for the current college football landscape. Marcus Freedman at Notre Dame said last year before they played Georgia the he went back and watched Georgia’s offense under Richt when Bobo was the OC, he said they were running the same plays and it showed. Schumann, I can’t believe Kirby let Will Muschamp go to Texas as there new DC. He should have replaced Schumann. Well Georgia regressed in 2024 and 2025. I see fans are saying that it’s ok we went 12-2. How long will that last if they go 11-1 and lose in the first round of the playoffs or not make the playoffs at all.(see Notre Dame)
