The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs will be facing the No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels in the Sugar Bowl on January 1 at 8 p.m. on ABC. It will be the second time these two schools have met this year. In the first meeting, Georgia beat Ole Miss 43-35. Including outscoring the Rebels 17-0 in the 4th quarter.
Can the Bulldogs repeat that result in New Orleans in 12 days?
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Georgia is favored by -6.5. The over/under is 55.5, and Georgia moneyline reads -260.
Ole Miss comes into this game after ripping Tulane apart 41-10. This was a very similar result to the regular season when they beat the Green Wave 45-10. However, this doesn’t put much context to the matchup in the Sugar Bowl as Tulane was overmatched in every phase.
One of the main matchups that Georgia was able to exploit in the first game was running the ball. Georgia ran for 221 yards against the Rebels in Athens. Ole Miss’ rushing attack tallied just 88 yards. Nate Frazier led all rushers with 72 yards.
One area Georgia struggled in was defending the pass. Trinidad Chambliss threw for 263 yards, ran for another 42 yards, and scored a total of 3 touchdowns. Against Tulane, Chambliss threw for 282 yards, ran for 36 yards, and scored a total of 3 touchdowns. It goes without saying that slowing down Chambliss will be priority one for Georgia’s defense.
The good news for the Bulldogs is that it’s now December. The October version of this team isn’t getting off the bus on January 1. Georgia’s rush defense has allowed 32 yards rushing a game, and the pass defense allowed 193.5 passing yards per game in the last 4 games. They also tallied 9 of their 20 sacks on the season over that time.
Gunner Stockton also had his best game of the season. Stockton threw for 289 yards, added another 59 on the ground, and scored a total of 5 touchdowns. In fact, Georgia had a 100% drive TD rate on the day, scoring on all 8 drives against the Rebels’ defense.
My score prediction: Georgia 35, Ole Miss 30
