Legendary Georgia player to be inducted into College Football Hall of Fame

The Georgia Bulldogs have earned the title of Running Back University, or RBU for short. With a legendary lineage that includes icons like Herschel Walker and Nate Frazier, UGA consistently produces outstanding running backs who dominate the game. In fact, Frank Sinkwich (1954), Charley Trippi (1959), and Herschel Walker (1999) are all in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Former UGA running back Garrison Hearst will be joining that trio soon. The National Football Foundation announced that Hearst will be inducted alongside 17 other players and 4 coaches as part of its 2026 College Football Hall of Fame Class.

Hearst is set to be inducted on Dec. 8, 2026, at Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Hearst amassed 3778 total yards on 588 total touches for an average of 6.4 yards per touch. He also scored 35 touchdowns for the Bulldogs. That kind of production is why he remains in the Top 10, and often in the Top 5, on many of Georgia’s all-time leaderboards.

The 1992 season was special for Hearst and is one of the best individual rushing seasons in Georgia football history. The hardware Hearst racked up that year is evidence of this.

  • 1992 Doak Walker Award
  • 1992 SEC Player of the Year
  • 1992 Consensus All-American
  • 1993 Citrus Bowl MVP

Hearst should have been a Heisman Trophy winner in 1992, but getting into the College Football Hall of Fame more than makes up for it.
