Georgia Set To Host No. 1 In-State Prospect For Texas Game

No. 5 Georgia (8-1, 6-1 SEC) will host No. 10 Texas (7-2, 4-1 SEC) in one of the biggest games of the weekend across college football. The stage couldn’t be any bigger on the field, but it will be a massive recruiting weekend for the Bulldogs as multiple elite prospects will be in Athens on Saturday.

One of the biggest visitors will be five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs, who is one of Georgia’s most important targets in the 2027 recruiting class.

His father, David, played defensive line for the Bulldogs from 1999 to 2002. He also has a younger brother, Dawson, who could be a target for the Bulldogs in the 2028 class.

Jacobs is the No. 12 overall prospect and No. 2 EDGE in the class of 2027. He ranks as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Georgia, according to the Rivals Industry ranking.

It’ll be the second visit to Athens this season for Jacobs after he attended Georgia’s matchup against Alabama earlier this year. He was also in Athens in May for Georgia’s annual Junior Day. According to Rivals, this will be the eighth unofficial visit to Athens for the 5-star prospect. It’s been a busy year for Jacobs, who has visited Tennessee, LSU, Texas A&M, Miami, and Florida State over the past few weekends.

Jacobs wasted no time making his name on the recruiting trail, earning MaxPreps Freshman All-American honors in 2023. He was awarded the Freshman Little Peach Award by the Touchdown Club of Atlanta and was named the Region 7-AAAAAA Rookie of the Year.

Jacobs carried that momentum into his sophomore campaign, earning MaxPreps Sophomore All-American honors and being named the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Class 4A Defensive Player of the Year. He finished the year with 112 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks.

Georgia is the projected favorite in Jacobs’ recruitment, according to the Rivals RPM, holding a slight edge over Notre Dame, South Carolina, and Alabama.

The Bulldogs currently have four commitments in the class of 2027, ranking No. 7 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC. Georgia’s 2027 recruiting class is headlined by four-star cornerback Donte Wright and four-star offensive tackle Kelsey Adams.

Kickoff for the huge SEC battle between Georgia and Texas is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. The Bulldogs are currently 6.5-point favorites over the Longhorns, according to ESPN BET.
