Georgia to Host Five-star WR Drawing Zachariah Branch Comparisons

Georgia and wide receiver coach James Coley are working to get into the race for a five-star wide receiver in the 2027 class.

The Bulldogs already hold one wide receiver commitment in their 2027 class in three-star receiver Aden Starling. Georgia currently sits at No. 5 in the ON3 Industry Team Rankings, but the staff is looking to add more weapons.

On December 17th, five-star wide receiver Eric McFarland reclassified to the 2027 class. With this move, the 5’8″ playmaker from IMG Academy now ranks as the No. 19 overall player and the No. 4 wide receiver in the 2027 class.

McFarland making this move saw his recruitment take off. USC, Tennessee, Ohio State, and Texas A&M quickly pushed to the top of the list. Now Georgia has entered the mix for one of the nation’s top pass catchers.

Georgia will get the first official visit on May 15th. After that, McFarland plans to officially visit Texas A&M, USC, and Ohio State.

According to the ON3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Ohio State holds the early lead. However, many insiders believe Texas A&M could potentially be a team making a serious move for McFarland. Georgia hopes to shift that momentum when McFarland steps on campus this spring.

Eric McFarland has even drawn a comparison to Zachariah Branch by 247Sports’s Andrew Ivins. With Zachariah Branch’s success last season, Georgia has a strong selling point as it pushes to land the dynamic five-star receiver.

Georgia will continue to recruit four-stars Amare Patterson, Elias Pearl, and Khalil Taylor as the staff works to climb the ladder in Eric McFarland’s recruitment.
