Former UGA wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell made an appearance on the Steve Harvey show in April. The interview apparently made a big impression on the comedian.
“That young man is going to be major in life — well beyond football. He’s going to be major in life. He’s successful, but he’s going to be great, “ Harvey said on Wednesday at the Regions Tradition celebrity pro-am golf tournament in Birmingham, Al.
Mitchell went on Harvey’s show to discuss the children’s book that he authored — The Magician’s Hat — which was published in August and tells the story of a magician named David that learns the magical power of books.
Mitchell’s story got Harvey’s attention because of the wideout’s love of reading —which motivated him to write the book — was only recently developed. Mitchell got interested in books in 2013 while dealing with an ACL injury that caused him to miss the season.
Mitchell was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots after leading UGA with 865 yards and five touchdowns in 2015.
He has recently also gotten attention from another celebrity as well. Actress Reese Witherspoon invited Mitchell to join her book club after hearing about his story.
