A mainstay at UGA during Mark Richt’s tenure with the program, tight ends coach John Lilly, said his goodbyes over Twitter on Wednesday.
Lilly served as the Bulldogs’ play-caller in their bowl victory but made it clear he would not return for a ninth season at UGA with new head coach Kirby Smart. In light of his departure, Lilly wanted to celebrate the team’s win and give thanks for his eight years at UGA.

It remains unknown where Lilly will end up. He turned down a chance to reunite with Richt in Miami, and could be eyeing a jump to the NFL. Under his tutelage, several Bulldogs’ tight ends enjoyed successful college careers before going to the NFL.
