INDIANAPOLIS — Sterling Bailey’s parents send him Bible verses and motivational quotes every single day, and that inspiration to believe must have helped him when he received his NFL combine invite.
The Georgia defensive lineman looked at the list of combine invitees and didn’t see his name as one of the NFL hopefuls that gets to showcase his talents in front of NFL personnel here in Indianapolis.
“At first, this is how funny it was, I’m in a group message with all of the defensive linemen and I look in there and I see Chris Mayes got an invite,” Bailey said of how he knew the NFL combine list was available. “So, I look in my email and it said ‘updated just now,’ and I was like, ‘Oh man, I didn’t get an invite.’ I refreshed it again and that’s when I saw it pop up. I felt kind of relieved.”
Right after he saw that he was going to the combine, he called his parents to let them know that their belief in him paid off.
“Man, I never heard them scream so loud,” Bailey said. “I had to put the phone down. I was happy to hear the excitement in their voices because every single day my dad will text me or call me and say congratulations because they already knew and already had faith that I would get my invite.”
Bailey will participate in on-field defensive line drills Sunday.
