Georgia had a great time in the 2016 version of the Chick-fil-A Kickoff game. So much so that the Bulldogs will be returning to the event in 2020.
Per Jason Butt of the Macon Telegraph, Georgia will take on Virginia on Sept. 7, 2020 in the Mercedes Benz Stadium. Georgia has previously expressed a desire to play in the Chick-fil-A kickoff after knocking off North Carolina 33-24 in this year’s game.
“The turnout was phenomenal and the atmosphere was great,” Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity said after this year’s Chick-fil-A Kickoff game. “We look forward to getting back as soon as we can.”
Per Butt, this will be the first time since 1985 that the Bulldogs will play in a game on Labor Day. In an open records request filed by the Macon Telegraph, both Virginia and Georgia will wear home jerseys. Virginia is in its first year with head coach Bronco Mendenhall, who was previously the head coach at BYU.
In addition to the Virginia game, Georgia also has a 2020 game scheduled against East Tennessee State. The Bulldogs do travel to take on Notre Dame next season.
Georgia travels to No. 23 Ole Miss this Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET on ESPN.
