Kirby Smart has recruited Lyndell Wilson since his freshman year of high school, and their strong relationship could benefit UGA.
With Smart being named the new coach at UGA, Wilson, the nation’s No. 1 outside linebacker, is very interested in learning more about the Bulldogs. It’s one of the reasons why he will be taking an official visit to the school.
“I want to give them a chance to recruit me and because of Coach Smart,” Wilson told SEC Country. “We have a great relationship, and with him being the head coach, I would like to see how it goes.”
Now that Smart is on-board with UGA, there have been a lot of reports stating that UGA is now a “front-runner” in the 5-star’s recruiting process, but would he say that is accurate?
“No, sir. I will give them a chance to recruit me, but with Kirby Smart being the head coach, they have a good chance,” Wilson said.
When asked to clarify what he meant by “they have a good chance,” Wilson said UGA has a good chance of landing his commitment, just like the other schools at the top of his list.
Wilson was supposed to announce his commitment on Dec. 4 but postponed it on Tuesday morning because of the possible coaching changes.
He maintains that Florida is still his leader and Alabama is a close No. 2. Although that may be the case, it’s clear Wilson will give the Bulldogs a serious look in the coming months.
