UGA was listed as an early favorite for coach Kirby Smart’s debut.
The sportsbook 5dimes listed the Bulldogs as a 4.5-point favorite over North Carolina in their Week 1 matchup at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy.
It will technically be a neutral site contest, but UGA should expect a bit of home cooking on Sept. 3. Fans are extremely optimistic after freshman quarterback Jacob Eason dazzled in his UGA debut during the team’s spring game and will certainly travel in droves to Atlanta.
The Tar Heels went 11-3 last season and lost in the ACC Championship Game to national runner-up, Clemson. They will present a daunting task for the Bulldogs to kickoff the Smart era in Athens, Ga.
