UGA to name Jim Chaney as offensive coordinator
Jim Chaney is returning to the SEC.
Chaney is set to become UGA’s offensive coordinator under first-year Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart, sources close to the situation confirmed to DawgNation.
This past season, Chaney directed the Pitt offense, which ranked 69th in scoring offense (28.3 points per game) and 76th in total offense (381 yards per game) nationally.
Chaney previously coached at both the professional and collegiate levels. He coached Drew Brees during his stint as Purdue’s offensive coordinator from 1997-2005 before spending three years with the St. Louis Rams.
Upon his return to college football, Chaney served as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator from 2009-12 and finished the year off as the Vols’ interim coach. Chaney also coordinated Arkansas’ offense from 2013-14 before taking the same position at Pitt this season.
