UGA running back Keith Marshall would do well to heed the words of another former Bulldogs running back, Terrell Davis, as he gets ready to have his name called in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Davis, a two-time Super Bowl champion and three-time Pro Bowl pick who now works for NFL Network, spent some time recently with Marshall in Athens. Their stories parallel one another, considering both had injuries that kept them from being selected higher in the draft.
Davis was a sixth-round draft pick in 1995 after tearing his hamstring as a senior, and Marshall is being projected as a fifth or sixth-round selection after a knee injury cost him significant time in his career.
“The one thing that I would tell you is that you have to try and make yourself known,” Davis says in the video. “You gotta just be a player, got to be a football player, and take advantage of your opportunities, because they’ll come. The question mark would be, when they come, are you ready for them?”
There’s little doubt Marshall has the talent. His 4.31 40-yard dash time at the Scouting Combine should make every team stand up and take notice.
Round 1 of the NFL Draft is Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET, but given Marshall’s draft projection, he likely will have to wait until Saturday to learn his destination.
