Sure, plenty of people are talking about former Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott, who has shined in his rookie season for the Dallas Cowboys. But he’s not the only former SEC quarterback playing well in the NFL.
Is Prescott the best? Well, in the opinion of FoxSports.com writer Peter Schrager, no.
Schrager went on FS1’s “The Herd” on Tuesday and told Nick Wright, who was filling in for host Colin Cowherd, that a different former SEC QB is currently the best in the NFL — Detroit Lions quarterback Matt Stafford.
“They have no offensive line and he’s winning games, he’s throwing teams on his back,” Schrager said. “I know he hasn’t had a career of playoff wins. And I know Detroit is not going to sell retweets and it’s not going to be sexy on TV, but the Detroit Lions are winning on the back of Matt Stafford right now. If he’s not their quarterback, I’m not sure they win any games.”
