2017 SEC Country Power Poll: Where Kentucky is ranked (Week 8)

Kentucky was drilled 45-7 at Mississippi State on Saturday, and the result dropped the Wildcats two rungs in the latest edition of the SEC Country Power Poll.

Kentucky checked in at No. 9 in the latest SEC Country Power Poll, as compiled by 25 voters. The Cats were ranked No. 7 in our poll last week.

“There’s nowhere for them to run and nowhere to hide,” coach Mark Stoops said after Kentucky’s 38-point loss. “They whooped us. That’s the way it is. You’ve got to accept it.”

Mississippi State held steady at No. 6 in the poll after the dominant win. The Bulldogs outgained the Wildcats 441-260 on Saturday in Starkville. Kentucky was pushed around on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald rushed for 115 yards on almost 10 yards per carry against the Cats. He accounted for 3 touchdowns.

“We all have to look at ourselves in the mirror and look at every aspect of our situation and see where we get better, starting with me,” Stoops said.

Kentucky (5-2, 2-2 SEC) has to regroup for what looks to be a winnable game next Saturday against Tennessee. The Volunteers (3-4, 0-4 SEC) were blown out 45-7 at Alabama on Saturday, and they haven’t scored an offensive touchdown in the last month.

Tennessee is ranked No. 10 in the SEC Country Power Poll this week.

Kentucky will have to overcome history against the Vols, who hold a 79-24-9 edge in the series, but the Cats opened Sunday night as 5.5-point favorites for a game set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Kroger Field.

“Like I tell you every week when I’m in here: That’s the beautiful thing, you’ve got every seven days to go prove yourself, win or lose,” Stoops said after the Mississippi State game.
