2017 SEC Country Power Poll: Where Kentucky is ranked (Week 7)

Kentucky was off on Saturday, but the Wildcats managed to climb a rung in the latest edition of the SEC Country Power Poll.

Kentucky checked in at No. 7 in the poll, as compiled by more than two dozen voters. The Wildcats (5-1) were ranked No. 8 in the SEC Country Power Poll last week. Coach Mark Stoops’ squad jumped ahead of Florida this week. The Gators won the head-to-head matchup against UK, but a loss to Texas A&M on Saturday dropped them to 3-3 on the season and No. 8 in this week’s poll.

Next up for Kentucky is a 4 p.m. ET date Saturday at Mississippi State. The Bulldogs check in at No. 6 in the SEC Country Power Poll with a slight voting edge over the Wildcats. Mississippi State (4-2) is coming off a 35-10 win against BYU on Saturday.

Coach Dan Mullen’s squad has faced a gauntlet when it comes to SEC scheduling. Mississippi State had a dominant 37-7 win against LSU earlier this season but was blown out against Georgia and Auburn in its previous two conference contests.

It will be difficult to top the excitement from last season’s Kentucky-Mississippi State matchup, when Cats kicker Austin MacGinnis connected on the winning 51-yard field goal in the final seconds.

Mississippi State is favored by 10 points in this year’s matchup, but Kentucky will be aided by an extra week to prepare and get healthy. Wildcats junior linebacker Jordan Jones, who led the SEC in solo tackles last season, is expected to play against Mississippi State.

The Wildcats nearly cracked the top 25 in both the AP and coaches polls. Kentucky was ranked 30th by the AP and 26th in the coaches poll.
