2017 SEC Country Power Poll: Where Kentucky is ranked (Week 4)

Kentucky fell to Florida 28-27 on Saturday in heartbreaking fashion. The Wildcats were in control for much of the game, but in the end, their long losing streak against the Gators lived on, and Kentucky’s curse continued.

Despite the loss, Kentucky climbed one spot in the latest edition of the SEC Country Power Poll. The Wildcats checked in at No. 7 in the poll consisting of 27 voters. Kentucky (3-1, 1-1 SEC) was ranked eighth in last week’s poll.

The win lifted Florida from No. 5 to No. 4. The Gators are 2-0 in the SEC, with both wins coming in the last seconds — first against Tennessee, and on Saturday against Kentucky.

Kentucky led Florida 24-14 at the end of the third quarter. Running back Benny Snell said after the game that the Wildcats were the “better team.” But missed defensive assignments and a big holding call on the final drive doomed Kentucky. which has lost 31 consecutive games against Florida.

“There’s probably one of 12 plays in there that changed the game,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said after the game. “And it’s very disappointing that we didn’t come up with those plays. The breakdown in communication defensively on the two plays are really a sore spot because they stick out, and it takes away from the great passion and energy that our team played with. We played winning football.”

The Cats will look to get back on track against MAC opponent Eastern Michigan at 4 p.m. ET Saturday at Kroger Field. The Eagles (2-1) were handed their first loss on Saturday in a double-overtime game against Ohio.
