Colin Cowherd is holding Kentucky coach John Calipari partly to blame for death threats that were sent to NCAA referee John Higgins after the Wildcats’ 75-73 loss to North Carolina in the 2017 NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight.
Cowherd, an outspoken Fox Sports radio personality, referenced a post-game quote from Calipari that he says added fuel to his fans’ anger after criticism of a few controversial calls.
“You know, it’s amazing that we were in that game where they practically fouled out my team,” Calipari said. “Amazing that we had a chance.”

Cowherd said he heard it from Kentucky fans who took umbrage to judging the entire fan base based on “a couple of wackos.”
“Oh, but it’s OK to give death threats on a couple of calls.”
Cowherd went on to highlight statistical reasons for second-seeded Kentucky’s heartbreaking loss to top-seeded North Carolina, including the fact that the Wildcats were only called for one more foul (19 to 18).
