LEXINGTON, Ky. — John Calipari wants you and your family to join him on a little post-Thanksgiving trip to the Bahamas.
Kentucky plays Arizona State on Nov. 28 at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort. The coach held a press conference Friday ahead of Kentucky’s Sunday night exhibition game against Asbury. Calipari isn’t typically in the position where he needs to plug for fans to watch the Wildcats, but he was doing his best travel agent impersonation Friday.
“What I’m hoping is, bring your kids,” Calipari said. “Let’s make this a terrific weekend. You’re on the island, you’re in a great venue and setup. I understand the New York and I understand the Vegas, but I think this is going to be the trip. I want it to be a family where we’re all there.
Open practices were promised and late November sunshine is all but guaranteed.
It could even be entertaining.
“We’re playing Arizona State,” Calipari said. “It’s not like we’re playing a team that’s not good. They’re a good team.”
Kentucky plays Michigan State in New York and North Carolina in Vegas, but Calipari is going all-in on making the Bahamas trip worthwhile.
“Try to have some sort of get together where we can, where it’s an experience where you can get as close to this team,” he said. “You’re not getting that close in Vegas and you’re not getting that close up in New York. You’re just not. It’s a different environment.”
More information for the trip can be found on Kentucky’s website.
