LEXINGTON, Ky. — Coming home to New Mexico State after an 0-2 start wasn’t the preferred scenario for Kentucky, and the early season struggles might affect Saturday’s turnout.
Just 47,340 tickets have been allotted for Saturday’s game as of Wednesday night, according to a UK spokesperson. Capacity at Commonwealth Stadium is listed at 62,093 meaning almost 15,000 tickets remain.
Saturday will also mark the annual Heroes’ Day event. All active, reserve and veteran members of the armed forces along with police, firefighters and first responders are eligible to receive two complimentary tickets to the game by presenting a valid service ID, while supplies last, the athletic department announced in a release last Friday.
No breakdown could be provided of how many tickets have been sold versus given away as part of Heroes’ Day.
The attendance of UK’s home opener against Southern Miss was 57,230. That number was down from the 62,933 who attended last year’s home opener against Louisiana-Lafayette.
