LEXINGTON, Ky. — John Calipari is going to keep the state of Kentucky waiting for his much-anticipated “Cal Cast” with Louisville coach Rick Pitino.
“I don’t know yet,” Calipari said of the release date, “because anybody else says, ‘When he’s doing it? I’m mad’ then I may wait another week.”
Calipari’s podcast began in December with guests like Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Harbaugh, Charles Barkley, and his most recent, with Connecticut women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma.
But on Jan. 2 the Kentucky basketball account tweeted that Pitino would be a future guest. Calipari explained Friday how it happened.
“I just said, ‘Hey, why don’t you do this CalCast with me, the podcast that I’m doing? We’ll have some fun with it.’ He said, ‘Sure, I’ll do it.’ Texts me right back and he said, ‘When do you want me to do it?’ I said, ‘This afternoon, let’s just get it done so it’s in the can.’”
But Calipari couldn’t resist a little joke alluding to the much-discussed relationship between the two.
“The stuff with Rick – other than the scuffle– it was fine,” Calipari said, shrugging his shoulders.
The Kentucky coach promised it would be a good listen.
“There are some things that are around it that you’re going to want to hear,” he said. “Everybody, ‘Ah, it’s a love fest.’ OK, OK. You’ll want to hear it.”
