LEXINGTON, Ky. — John Calipari doesn’t lack confidence coaching basketball, and now it’s clear he feels pretty good about his quarterbacking skills.
Calipari joined the SEC Network’s ‘SEC Nation’ show last Saturday ahead of the football team’s matchup with Mississippi State. After he was done reciting his recruiting spiel alongside host Maria and analysts Paul Finebaum, Marcus Spears and Tim Tebow, Calipari and Spears walked down from the desk for a throwing contest in front of Kentucky’s William T. Young Library.
Did he practice?
“No, I’m just naturally gifted,” Calipari said. “The 40-yard dart that I threw over the top, which the kid caught, I don’t know who he was, but there was no way a lineman was going to beat me throwing a football.”
But it was Tebow, not Spears, that Calipari wanted to go up against.
“I mean, come on,” Calipari said. “I was mad Tebow didn’t throw. Come on. I asked him, ‘Why aren’t you throwing.’ He didn’t want any of this.”
