LEXINGTON, Ky. — All proceeds from John Calipari’s celebrity softball game and home run derby will go toward the Louisiana flooding relief fund, the Kentucky coach said Thursday in a press conference.
UK basketball alums Terrence Jones and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist have been added to the list of attendees that already includes Karl-Anthony Towns, Nerlens Noel and Alex Poythress. Anthony Davis is out of the country but is trying to get back in town.
The New Orleans Pelicans center contacted Calipari about helping in the relief fund.
“He’s one of the ones who said, ‘Coach, you’ve gotta do something this weekend for Baton Rouge,’” Calipari said.
Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. at Lexington’s Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The home run derby starts at 5:30 p.m. with the game starting at 6 p.m. More information can be found here.
Calipari also announced a mobile giving campaign through his foundation. The Calipari Foundation is partnering with the Red Cross with 100 percent of the funds going to the flooding relief. Those interested can text “GIVE” to 859-955-8173.
