The Wildcats went 32-25 last season, including 15-15 in the SEC. They failed to make the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. That caused the Wildcats to let go of coach Gary Henderson last week.
Mingione is known as a player development coach, having helped Mississippi State get four players drafted to the MLB Draft in ever year he has coached entering this season. This was his seventh year in Starkville, Miss., where he served as both assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. He helped Mississippi State bring in three straight top-10 recruiting classes, according to his bio page from Mississippi State.
While Mingione does not have head coaching experience, he obviously has a solid track record as an assistant coach.
